Students at Ruggles Lane enjoy an academic balance of core content areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics, as well as specialist areas, which include physical education, art, music, and STEM. In addition, each grade enjoys a day away from campus for a field trip. Recent trips include: Davis Farmland, Southwick Zoo, Old Sturbridge Village, Lowell Mills, and Nature’s Classroom.
The final Friday of each month is “Final Fri-YAY!” at RLS! You can tell if you walk the halls of RLS, as students and staff don themed attire for the day. In addition, students and staff kick off the day with an all-school meeting. Our entire learning community meets in the cafeteria. Administration leads the school through a Morning Meeting, which reflects building wide expectations using a structure associated with Responsive Classroom. School-wide expectations are reviewed, and students participate in a greeting, share and activity. Also during this all-school meeting, representatives from our Buildings and Grounds staff award one grade level the ‘Golden Dustpan’ for consistently maintaining their environments across the school day. The end of the all-school meeting sees fourth or fifth grade students presenting daily announcements and leading the school in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Ruggles Lane is fortunate to partner with our very supportive PTO. Each year, this group supports monthly events, such as the Family Harvest Dance, Storybook Pumpkin Contest/ Halloween Family Fun Night, Family Movie Night, and Ruggles Loves Reading. The Ruggles PTO also supports yearly landmark occasions such as Kindergarten Orientation and Fifth grade Recognition Night.
